The geographical location and picturesque landscape of Lake Araisi have made it into a favorite fishing and recreational site. On the shores of the lake there are specially designed picnic areas, swimming sites, traditional wooden plank-ways and fishing from a boat is permitted in Lake Araisi. However, to maintain favorable ecological condition of the lake’s resources, a comprehensive study of the ecosystem and a sustainable management strategy are required

A multi-disciplinary team of researchers was formed to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the ecosystem of Lake Araisi. The study was based on classical hydrobiological research methods - sampling and analysis of nutrients, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and zoobethos. To assess the condition of the lake and its resource usability throughout the year, the data were collected in different seasons. It should be noted that fish surveys were performed according to the EU standard EN 14757:2005 using Nordic type multimesh gillnets. Taking into accounty the study findings, recommendations for the Lake Araisi sustainable management strategy were elaborated and presented to the Council of Amata local municipality.
