JCE Biennale is a cooperation initiative between 7 European countries – France, Denmark, Latvia, Portugal, Spain, Romania, Italy. It is led by the municipality of Montrouge in France. It was created in 2000 with a common goal to foster young emerging artists to gain international recognition, as well as strengthen contemporary art scenes in the European Union.
JCE Biennale process:
Each partner country selects 8 emerging young artists to participate in JCE Biennale. All artworks from 7 involved countries are collected together in a travelling exhibition. Starting from the leading partner’s gallery “Le Beffroi” in Montrouge, during a two-year period the exhibition travels through 7 art galleries and culture centers, thus, raising recognition of the involved artists and putting the involved partners’ sites on the map of Europe’s contemporary art scene.
